The Empire of Japan was a final winner of World War Two, became a huge empire which owns a massive territory from the Indian Ocean to the west Pacific Ocean, and created an economic community called “Greater East Asian Co-prosperity Sphere”(大東亜共栄圏, Daitōa Kyōeiken) in the region. The regime of Asia created by the Empire was called “The New Order of Eastern Asia”(東亜新秩序, Tōa Shin-Chitsujo), and this huge markets contributed to the growth of the Japanese conglomerates called “Zaibatsu”. This empire, which became the 2nd place next to the United States in the economic power rank because of the victory of the war, is one of the nuclear states that plays a significant role in the Cold War, and maintains its order created by itself with a navy which is 2nd biggest in the world, and an army which contributed to a final victory in the Pacific scene and the continent of China.
Korea, which was annexed by the Empire of Japan in 1910, has been spending time as a colony of the empire in the past four decades. The Empire of Japan constructed some infrastructures like railroads or flood-control facilities in Korea, but on the other hand, they conducted a strong assimilation policy, and forced “Shintō” religion on Korean residents mainly through primary education. As a result of the assimilation policy, conscription law was enforced in Korea, which was first in the overseas territories of the empire in 1944, and 150 thousand soldiers and the same number of civil personnel in military were sent onto the battlefield of hell in World War Two. The contribution of Korea against World War Two came to be recognized by the central government of Japan, and the autonomous diet was established in Korea after the war. However, domination by the Japanese is unwilling for Koreans, regardless of the form, and the claim for independence is becoming larger and beyond conceal.
Taiwan was the first overseas territory that Japan acquired, except the Ryukyu state, which was a half-independent state that subordinates Japan. In 1895, Japan won the first Sino-Japanese war and forced to cede this tropic island against the Great Qing, which indicated the promotion of Japan to a modern, civilized country. After the annex, Taiwan became a 2nd colony of the empire, which was next of Hokkaido, and administrated by military officers because of its frequent rebellion by indigenes and Chinese. However, in the 1920s, administration by civil officials started in Taiwan due to the stable of public order, and that moderate governance eventually brought up the identity as “Taiwanese in the empire” of the Taiwan residents, which was separated from continental China for 25 years. In World War Two, Taiwan sent a lot of voluntary soldiers, which were represented by the Takasago people, one of the indigenes of Taiwan, and it resulted in the establishment of an autonomous diet, who same as Korea. Also, regardless of Taiwan’s considerable assimilation with the empire, Taiwan has an aspect of one part of China, and participates in the Chinese Confederation.
